Drive Time

‘Drive Time’ uses cars, sculpture, painting and sound to probe the very idea of landscape, and asks big questions about where we are, where we are going and the dissociative state of travel.

This year’s Sculpture Town Artist in Residence Programme was awarded to Samuel Padfield. His time in Harlow, working with local young people in partnership with Pearson Education, culminates with an intervention in the Harvey Centre (Monday to Saturday 8.00am - 10.00pm, Sunday 10.00am - 5.00pm) alongside an exhibition in the Gibberd Gallery (Monday to Saturday 11.00am-4.00pm) in Harlow.

‘Drive Time’ uses cars, sculpture, painting and sound to probe the very idea of landscape, and asks big questions about where we are, where we are going and the dissociative state of travel.

This ambitious new artwork is curated by Dorothy Feaver, whose exhibition project Pervilion produces art in unusual places. Listen out for the drive time radio show hosted by celebrated Essex DJ Paul Lovett. The show features special guests, track requests and a platform for public participation about the experience of travel - as a driver or passenger - and the very genre of drive time.

What’s your favourite drive time track? How does it make you feel? Send a voice note to the Drive Time hotline and you'll be part of the artwork.
