Essex Country Parks is excited to confirm an investment of over £300,000 in children’s play areas this spring.

The funding from Essex County Council’s Capital Programme will see the much loved play trail at Great Notley Country Park benefit from some new play equipment.

Other improvements include the resurfacing of the children's play areas at Belhus Woods and Hadleigh Country Parks.

Works start at Hadleigh Country Park on Monday 2 February, with more to take place at Belhus Woods and Great Notley over the coming weeks and months.

Great Notley Country Park - play trail investment

Great Notley Country Park play trail will benefit from new sand play equipment, climbing forest, sensory equipment, an agility trail, a 12-metre rope bridge and more.

The improvements are designed to stimulate children’s imaginative play, improve communication skills, strengthen muscles and co-ordination and help to burn off excess energy.

What does this mean for me?

Due to the works, closures and diversions will be put in place at Belhus Woods, Great Notley and Hadleigh Country Parks while the improvements and upgrades take place.

If you are planning to visit this spring, please check the place pages and parks' social media for up-to-date information on any closures.

We look forward to welcoming you to the parks to enjoy the enhancements to these play areas very soon.

Why is this investment important?

An Essex Country Parks spokesperson said:

"Outdoor play itself is vital for children's wellbeing as it provides physical health benefits like improved fitness and stronger immune systems.

"It’s also known to have mental health advantages including better mood, social and natural world connection and increased resilience.

"We hope more children will be able to enjoy the outdoor play at the Essex Country Parks in the future.”
