Essex Symphony Orchestra: Dorothy Howell, R. Strauss and Mahler
This programme casts special spotlights on the woodwind and string sections, with the orchestra joining together for the highly appealing Mahler symphony, featuring Essex born soprano soloist, Charlotte Bowden.
Dorothy Howell was championed by Henry Wood and her work was frequently played at the Proms in the 1920s, when she was hailed as being ‘the English Strauss’. Her work for muted strings has been described as being ‘delicious’.
FREE pre-concert talk 18:45-19:15. Join the Essex Symphony Orchestra and their special guest as they discover more about the life and work of Dorothy Howell.
