Place Services: Traditional Timber Repair and Conservation
This day course is aimed at anybody interested in or involved with timber repairs.
The first talk will cover the identification of defects and the process of risk mitigation. Both modern and historic repair methods will be discussed, along with specialist power tools.
During the second session, students will observe examples of timbers, tools and repairs up-close. There will also be a tour of the thirteenth-century timber-framed barns on site at Cressing Temple.
The course will be led by Rick Lewis, who runs his own carpentry business specialising in traditional timber buildings. He and his team have repaired several hundred timber-framed buildings across eastern England
