Place Services: Living with Heritage Assets: How to understand and navigate the planning system
This morning course is designed to provide an understanding of the planning system for those who own a listed building or live within a Conservation Area.
This course aims to demystify key planning terms and processes which are most commonly used, and provide guidance for those who live with heritage assets and would like to understand more about their buildings, conservation areas and planning policy.
The course will provide delegates with an understanding of:
- Designation - what listed buildings and conservation areas are and why these spaces are protected by law
- Approaches (conservation, restoration and preservation)
- Planning changes to your historic building
- Repairs and maintenance for keeping your property in good condition
- Window conservation and repairs
- Sustainability and retrofit to adapt historic buildings to the changing climate
The course will be led by Tim Murphy (IHBC, MCIfA). Tim has extensive experience working in both the private and public sector as a Heritage Consultant across the UK and Ireland. He is the Historic Environment Manager at Place Services, managing both historic building and archaeological development control support to several local planning authorities in the east and south-east of England.
Refreshments will be provided.
