Place Services: Lime Plaster for Beginners

This one-day workshop is designed for anyone interested in learning about the use of lime, particularly homeowners wanting to understand small patch repairs. No prior experience is required.

The workshop will cover:

  • A brief history of lime
  • The lime cycle
  • The different qualities of NHL and putty mixes
  • Material sourcing and the types of aggregate
  • The advantages of using lime in conservation
  • Selecting products and specifications, with regards to safety and winter working

The workshop will be delivered by Graham Griffiths, who has extensive experience working with traditional building materials and delivering training. You will observe demonstrations on how to hand-mix small amounts of lime plaster and how to repair or replace patches.

A bursary can be applied for to cover up to 50% of the course fee, if you can demonstrate an aspiration to work in the heritage sector by emailing conservation.courses@essex.gov.uk.
