Essex Symphony Orchestra: Amy Beach Gaelic Symphony

Join the Essex Symphony Orchestra and their special guest in Chelmsford to discover more about the life and work of Amy Beach.

Amy Beach’s symphony premiered in 1896 and was the first symphony by an American woman to be published and gain public attention. It was written in response to Dvorak’s call for American composers to explore their musical roots and Beach’s work is inspired by the Irish melodies of the large immigrant community of her native Boston.

This concert features the Weber Bassoon Concerto – a work offered to the Essex Symphony Orchestra by international soloist Laurence Perkins as part of a project he is involved in to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the work.

There is also a FREE pre-concert talk with a special guest from 6.45pm.

Supported by the Essex County Council Arts and Cultural Fund.
